One of the most common complaints during winter is related to dry skin, but dry skin can happen at any time of the year. Apart from the obvious moisturizing solution, look at your diet for added help.
The following are super foods that will sustain you all winter long and help not only help your avoid constipation, dry skin, hair and nails, but also cracking joints and reduce stress:
Avocados, beets, brussels sprouts (coat with ghee or other oil as they can cause gas), carrots, chilies, garlic, ginger, honey, nut butters, Oils: sesame, avocado, almond. Pumpkin, its seeds and oil, winter squash, sweet potatoes.
Recipe: Smoothie for dry skin.
Ingredients
Any dehydrated skin cell will absorb this smoothie like water by sand.
¼ fresh avocado
¼ boiled sweet potato (preferably still warm)
½ tsp unpasteurized honey
1 pinch of chili powder
1 pinch of ginger
1 Tbsp of sesame oil (preferably warm or room temperature)
8 drops total of the following essential oils:
thyme, spikenard, bergamot, cinnamon according to your scent preference.
Blend everything into a creamy smoothy. Add a few drops more oil if too thick for your liking.
Method:
- Clean the skin and other dry body parts with a warm face cloth.
- Apply generously; use all in one sitting as this combo will oxidize quickly.
- Leave on for 11 minutes.
- Rinse off with warm water (no soap on the skin)
A fun thing to do is to rate the comfort of your skin before you start and do it again afterwards to compare the improvement.
